Common Threads Woven Through Community is an annual community engagement project with a strong focus on textiles and skill sharing, exhibition and interactive presentations – followed by smaller events that run throughout the year. The signature event is proudly brought to you each May in partnership with The Sound Temple, located in the beautiful bush setting of the Perth Hills. This month long program provides an opportunity for our immediate and wider community to explore connections to our environment, culture and knowledge.
This event was seeded to as a response to living in a time when our retail choices have become a moral act, where our consumer behaviours have become a rich commodity and where our purchasing decisions have a far reaching global impact. The real cost of that cheap white t-shirt you brought last week at your local retail franchise? It cost considerably more than we could imagine. Integrating sustainability, creativity, and traditional hand -crafted wisdom of the ages with a strong focus on cloth and textiles.
Our 2020 theme embraces the inter connection of our living world the seen and unseen “The Pollination of Life” exploring the underlying connections between, artists, creatives, sustainable enterprises and movements. As we all carry a thread that collaboratively weaves the health and wellbeing of our collective future on this planet. The current response was so rich that we have expanded and are proud to be offering some of our events at other amazing locations around Perth, more details to come once the curating has been finalised.
We invite artists working across a range of mediums, textiles, visual, sculpture, natural fibres, found, painting, photography etc and performance fields to collaborate and put forward any concepts and ideas that offer expression, education, inter-active experience to share skills and knowledge that foster and inspire action in creating an informed and empowered culture within our community.
